The World’s Best Brandy Bars – Part 1
It’s strange but true that in spite of the worldwide popularity of brandy, the majority of bars only offer a small selection of the same bottles. Most of these aren’t exactly high on quality, either, and are from the more famous brands like Hennessy. Not that we don’t want to be offered brandy by the larger brands. It’s just that for those who know their brandies, it’s always nice to have a wider selection from which to choose.
Here we take a look at some of the world’s best locations to visit if you want to sample your favourite drink while taking in the sights at the same time. The brandies on this list have met certain criteria e.g. the brandies themselves, the bar’s atmosphere, and the bartenders’ depth of knowledge in the drinks they serve. Bars with a small selection but featuring more obscure brandies can be every bit as good as one that stocks a wide selection. So, without keeping you waiting any longer, here’s what we believe to be some of the world’s best brandy bars.
Ramblin’ Rascal Tavern, Sydney, Australia
One thing you can say about the Australians is that when they decide to do something, they go all-in. There are currently around 70 brandies in Ramblin’ Rascal. The past few years have seen the bar focus on expanding the selection they offer, so expect to see that number grow even higher. Of course, included in their range are some of the essentials from the larger brands. They also offer some gems from a number of smaller brands, however. Included are Paul Giraud VSOP, Mercier La Peraudiere, Jean Grosperrin Fins Bois Organic 2001, Croizet XO, and the Dudgogon Folle Blanche.
Some of the tastier options from the larger brands include Courvoisier 12-year-old Cognac, the Camus Borderies XO, Hennessy Master Blender, and Martell Noblige. There’s also an impressive range of Armagnac on offer. Martell Cordon Bleu is the most common brandy that the bar’s customers drink neat. The most commonly used brandy used in their cocktail is either their VSOP or Martell CS. If you’re planning on taking a trip to Australia and want to visit a great bar with a wide brandy selection, you won’t regret visiting this Sydney venue. If you don’t want to give the game away that you’re a tourist, the best way to give off the impression you’re a local would be to order the Swinging Richards, their most popular brandy.
The Office, Chicago, USA
This bar might be small but it’s also uber-sophisticated. With its stunning selection of 25 different brandies, it’s undoubtedly the finest array to be found in all of Chicago. It’s also known for mixing up some delicious cocktails, with an authentic take on some old classics. If you like the idea of a venue where you feel like you’re sat in the front room of an old friend’s home, albeit with one very impressive brandy collection, this speakeasy in Chicago is one venue you must visit.
